For the last 16 years I’ve served as secretary for GLAMC. It has been an amazing and rewarding experience. We originally embarked on a course toward implementing the CA State Standards in Mathematics. We began by informing our membership through mini conferences in different regions of the LA area and hosting "An Evening With …(insert local mathematician)”. I’m proud to have taken part in this collaboration. After teaching Middle School math for 35 years in Montebello USD, I retired in 2008. I soon found out that I still missed the classroom. At the same time, the CCSSM began to emerge. Having been involved in the 1990’s with the first attempt to change math pedagogy and curriculum, I knew I needed to be involved with Common Core. Since then, I’ve been involved, first, through LACOE, UCLA Math Project, and the Mathematics Content Program for Teachers and now through GLAMC and CMC. My main focus is making sure that all students have access to this curriculum, especially English Learners. I am a member of TODOS: “Mathematics for All, Excellence and Equity in Mathematics” since it’s inception in 2003. I have served on several Materials Adoption Committees and on the State Network of Educators (for the SBAC Digital Library). My passion is sharing my expertise with new and in-service teachers as we journey into a new era in education. I am currently working as a supervisor of student teachers in secondary math at CSUN. This has been a very rewarding experience. Thank you for your support. |

I have worked as a math educator all over Los Angeles. I have taught Middle School Math for 15 years in the diverse cultures that is the Metropolis of Los Angeles. I choose to live in a neighborhood that is right in the center of it all. I chose my undergraduate degree in Urban Learning from California State University's Charter College of Education because it focused on both what made Los Angeles one place yet many places. I believe education is a human right and a necessity for a democratic country. I am passionate about teaching all populations in the Los Angeles area. As I earned my master's degree in Math Education, I also served as a representative of student government. This experience prepared me to serve as Vice President of the Greater Los Angeles Mathematics Council. In this position, I look forward to serving all teachers in improving math education in Los Angeles. |

I have worked as an elementary school teacher in Los Angeles for over a decade. My education includes an Associate of Arts (AA) in Liberal Studies from College of the Canyons; a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara; a Master of Arts (MA) in Education from Alliant International University; and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from California State University, Los Angeles. Math was never my strongest subject as a student. However, I truly began to love math when I became a teacher, after learning how to make math more engaging and accessible to young learners. I believe that education is not only a human right, but also that education should be accessible to all learners regardless of barriers or opportunity gaps. In addition to my love for teaching, I'm also passionate about reading and performing arts! I became a GLAMC board member in September, 2024, and was recently elected as the organization's Acting Secretary and Treasurer. I'm so grateful to work with this incredible team of passionate educators! |
